Your Inner Critic Is a Liar (And It’s Time to Shut It Up for Good)

Let’s have a little heart-to-heart, shall we?
There is a voice in your head… and she is busy.Busy telling you you’re not ready.Busy reminding you of that one awkward thing you said in 2007.Busy convincing you that you should probably just stay in your lane, play it safe, and definitely not put yourself out there.
And the worst part?
You believe her.
I know. Because I’ve done it too.
We all have this inner monologue running 24/7, and if we’re being honest, it’s not exactly giving TED Talk-level inspiration. It’s more like a running commentary of doubt, criticism, and “who do you think you are?”
Spoiler alert:That voice is not the authority in your life.
It’s just… loud.
And if you don’t learn how to manage it, it will absolutely run the show—keeping you stuck, small, and second-guessing yourself into oblivion.
So today, we’re flipping the script.
🚫 First, Let’s Call It What It Is
The things you say to yourself?A lot of it is straight-up trash.
Would you ever look at your best friend and say:“Wow, you’re such an idiot. Why would you even try that?”
Absolutely not.
But somehow, when it comes to ourselves?Game on.
We beat ourselves up over the smallest mistakes. We talk ourselves out of opportunities before we even try. We decide we’re not smart enough, experienced enough, thin enough, confident enough… you name it.
And then we wonder why we feel stuck.
You can’t talk yourself into a small life and expect big results.

💡 The Real Problem
It’s not just that the voice is negative. It’s that we don’t question it.
We treat every thought like it’s fact.
“I’m not good at this.”“I can’t do that.”“People will judge me.”
Says who?? Nancy?? (Yes, we’re still calling her Nancy. She earned it.)
Just because you think something doesn’t mean it’s true.It just means you thought it.
And until you learn to separate yourself from that voice, you will keep letting it make decisions for you.
🔥 3 Fresh Takeaways You Didn’t Hear in the Episode
1. Your Brain Loves Efficiency… Not Accuracy
Here’s something most people don’t realize: your brain is wired to take shortcuts.
It doesn’t sit around analyzing every situation with perfect logic. It pulls from past experiences, fears, and patterns and goes,“Cool, we’ve seen something like this before… let’s panic and shut it down.”
Efficient? Yes.Accurate? Not always.
So when that voice says, “You’ll probably fail,” what it really means is:“This feels unfamiliar and I don’t like it.”
That’s it.
Don’t confuse discomfort with inability.
2. Confidence Is Built, Not Bestowed
I think we’ve all been sold this idea that confident people just feel confident all the time.
Nope.
Confidence comes from doing the thing—while your inner voice is still freaking out.
You don’t wait until you feel ready. You act, and then confidence catches up.
Every time you take action despite the doubt, you’re basically telling Nancy,“Hey, thanks for your input… but I’ve got this.”
And the more you do that, the quieter she gets.

3. If This Hit a Nerve… You Need This Episode
If you’re reading this thinking,“Wow… I do this all the time,”
Good.
Not because it feels great—but because awareness is where everything changes.
Now it’s time to take it a step further.
🎧 In this episode of Breakthrough with Mallory and Julie, we go ALL IN on:
How to recognize your negative inner voice
Why it’s sabotaging you
And how to shift from self-doubt to actual action
It’s real, it’s honest, and yes… it might call you out a little (with love, of course).
💥 Final Thought
You are capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for.
But you will never see it if you keep listening to a voice that was never qualified to lead you in the first place.
So here’s your assignment:
The next time that voice starts up…Pause.Call it out.And then do the thing anyway.
Because your impact? It’s way too big to be controlled by Nancy.
