Tired of Your Own Bullsh*t? How to Stop Making Excuses and Finally Take Action

Have you ever gotten tired of hearing yourself explain why you haven’t done the thing?
You’re going to write the book.
Apply for the promotion.
Start the business.
Go back to school.
Have the difficult conversation.
Finally tackle that goal you’ve been talking about for three years.
You absolutely intend to do it.
Just…not today.
Because you’re busy. You’re tired. You don’t have enough money. The timing isn’t right. Work is crazy. The kids need you. Mercury is probably in retrograde. And obviously, you should wait until Monday because nobody has ever successfully changed their life on a random Thursday at 3:47 p.m.
Except they have.
At some point, if you want to stop procrastinating, get out of your own way, and actually achieve your goals, you have to ask an uncomfortable question:
Is this really a reason—or has it become an excuse?
That’s exactly what we’re talking about in Episode 20 of Breakthrough with Mallory and Julie: what happens when you finally get tired of your own bullsh*t and decide to lock in.
And no, “locking in” doesn’t mean suddenly becoming wildly motivated.
Actually, it’s almost the opposite.
Motivation Is Great. But You Can’t Build a Life Around It.
We love motivation. Motivation feels fantastic.
You watch the video. Read the book. Buy the planner. Make the vision board. Declare that THIS IS IT.
And then Wednesday happens.
You’re tired. Work ran late. Netflix is calling. Your cute new planner is sitting on the counter judging you.
This is where most goals die.
One of the biggest ideas we discuss in the episode is that motivation often comes after action—not before it. Episode 20_Tired of Your Own Bu…
You don’t always take action because you feel motivated.
Sometimes you take action because you made a commitment. Then that action creates momentum. Momentum creates progress. Progress gives you evidence that you can actually do this.
And suddenly you feel a whole lot more motivated.
So how do you get there?
Here are three places to start.

TAKEAWAY #1: Calculate the Price of Doing Nothing
We spend an enormous amount of time thinking about what change will cost us.
If I go back to school, it will cost money.
If I start exercising, it will take time.
If I build my business, I’ll have to give something else up.
If I write the book, I’ll have to carve out hours to actually write the dang book.
All true.
But we rarely ask the opposite question:
What is it costing me NOT to change?
That question is powerful because your excuse isn’t free. You’re paying for it somewhere. Episode 20_Tired of Your Own Bu…
Maybe the cost is money or missed opportunities. Maybe it’s confidence. Maybe it’s another year in a job you hate. Maybe it’s watching somebody else go after the opportunity you keep saying you want.
Stop calculating only the price of action.
Calculate the price of inaction.
Sometimes that number is much scarier.
TAKEAWAY #2: Create an “Excuse Audit”
This one isn’t in the episode, but try it this week.
Take the goal you keep putting off and write down every reason you haven’t done it.
Don’t edit yourself. Put all of it on paper.
Then divide your list into two categories:
OBSTACLE or EXCUSE.
An obstacle requires a strategy.
An excuse requires a decision.
If childcare is an obstacle, what would have to happen to solve it?
If money is an obstacle, what amount do you actually need—and how could you work toward it?
But if the answer is, “I’m waiting until I feel ready,” we may have found ourselves an excuse wearing a very respectable little outfit.
Now choose one action you can take in the next 24 hours.
Not the whole goal.
One action.
Send the email. Make the phone call. Open the document. Research the class. Schedule the meeting.
You don’t need to solve everything today.
You need to prove to yourself that you have started.

TAKEAWAY #3: Listen to the Full Episode—and Decide What You’re Locking In On
This episode gets personal.
Mallory shares the story of reaching a point in her own life when she realized something had to change. And Julie talks about spending years saying she was going to write a book before finally getting tired of hearing her own excuses and doing it. Episode 20_Tired of Your Own Bu…
We also dig into self-discipline, confidence, procrastination, goal setting, personal growth, taking ownership, overcoming excuses, and how to create momentum when motivation is nowhere to be found.
But one of the biggest questions we want you to take away is this:
What are you willing to give up to get what you say you want? Episode 20_Tired of Your Own Bu…
Because saying you want something is easy.
Choosing it repeatedly—even when it’s inconvenient—is where the breakthrough happens.
So listen to Episode 20 of Breakthrough with Mallory and Julie: “Tired of Your Own Bullsh*t? How to Stop Making Excuses and Finally Lock In.”
Then pick your thing.
Not ten things.
The thing.
Stop waiting for Monday. Stop waiting to feel motivated. Stop negotiating with yourself about the goal you already decided matters.
You can start on Tuesday.
You can start at 3:47 p.m.
You can start now. Episode 20_Tired of Your Own Bu…
And maybe your next breakthrough begins the moment you finally get tired of your own bullsh*t.
